AMERICA IN PROPHECY Pastor Adron Wheat
Study Introduction I have been asked many times what I think the future is for America. Is there anything in Bible prophecy that would tell the destiny of the United States? Will the most powerful nation on earth be exempt when God judges this world for its sin and rejection of God? The Bible tells us very plainly that no person or nation will escape judgment of sin. Psalms 9:17 "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."
In the book of Revelation, the apostle John was instructed to write; " the things which thou has seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be. (1:19) Chapter One tells us of the things seen. Chapter Two is the things which are, or conditions existing at that time. Chapters Four through Twenty Two were things which shall be hereafter, or in the future.
John was shown things that would happen centuries later, things he could not possibly understand. Like the Prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel, who often described future visions using comparisons to things they knew. That is exactly what John does throughout the book of Revelation.
Revelation Chapter Eighteen tells us of a nation of people called. "Great Babylon" that will exist before His return to the earth that would be the envy of the world. Who is this Great Babylon that will fall into judgment at the hand of God?
First, who or what is Babylon? Babylon was the capital city of Chaldae. The title is often used in a figurative sense to describe an authoritarian government, or unjust use of power. There are three Babylons in scripture. The first, was a tower and city that was built by Nimrod as a defiance of God. The tower of Babel ( Bab; meaning Gate, - El; meaning God ) So the Tower of Babel was a "Gateway to God" or another way to God. The ultimate goal is always the same, one Empire, one Government, one Religion, one Ruler. The spirit of Babylon is alive and well in the world today. The second Babylon, was built by King Nebuchadezzar. This empire was one of the eight wonders of the world. The city itself was fourteen square miles, fifty six miles around, with walls over one hundred feet thick, and three hundred feet high. The houses were three and four stories. A modern stone paved road system that can still be seen. Great hanging gardens and parks, great temples to ever religious persuasion, the Euphrates river divided the city, the Royal Palace sit on the East side, The national symbol of Babylon was the Eagle. Does this description sound familiar? Could John, looking down through seventeen centuries, describe America by the closest thing he knew? The prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and the Apostle John all wrote of a last days nation called "Babylon" or "Daughter of Babylon."
