Prodicle Pigs

Text: 2 Peter 2: 9 - 22

Introduction: Many folks are confused about those who "profess" to be a Christian, yet continually live with sin in their lives. They have no desire to change their lifestyle, but still want to be considered in the Christianfamily. Jude says: "They turn the Grace of God into lacivousness (v.4) They are also "spots" in your feast of charity, "clouds" without water, "trees without fruit", twice dead, "raging waves", and "wandering stars."

But never be discouraged, God's Word and time will seperate the true from the false. 1 John 3:7-8 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Every Church has those who Come, See, Taste, but are never born again and are not satisfied until they return to their sinful ways.

(1) There Are Always Two Groups Never Satisfied In The Church:

(A) The Prodicle Sons: Those who get their eyes on the World, forget what they have, choose to try the other side.

• Many were "raised in" the church, saved, but think they have missed out
• They are taking their journey but will be back, "if" the father will stay home and don't take extra money and lunch down to the pig pen.

(B) The Prodicle Pigs: These are curosity seekers, driven to church by a misfortune, a calamity in their life that they are looking for an escape. They are fascinated by the things of God ----- for a while.

• Never really changed, did the best "they" could to "clean up" and turn over a new leaf.
• Never really happyuntil they return to the filth, mire of the hog wallow.
• They "grunt and squeal" about everything that goes on, always unhappy.

(2) The Prodicle Son Has Been In The Family, He Will Remember:

• The Best Robes, Shoes on his feet, Plenty of Food on the table, His Ring of authority, Loving arms of a father that really cared.
  The Far Country is never as glamorous as it appeared !
  Every road away from the Father's House has a Pig Pen at the end of it
  You may have taken your journey, found yourself stuck in the mire, but you will never be happy until you come back home.

(3) How Can You Tell If You Are A Real "Son" or just a "Pig"?

(A) You must be "born" into the Family: ( I am a Wheat because my father was a Wheat) This was my "natural" birth family.

(B) You must be "born again" (Gr: "gennao-anothen" begotten or recreated from above) This Spiritual birth places you in the family with God as your Father.

(C) Those in a particular family have certain "Traits and Characteristics." Such as Looks, Talk, Disposition, Taste.

Note: The world mocks Christians about their "Look alikes" (our dress) and that we "Talk alike," ( our phrases ) What about them ? They look alike with their "good old boy" beer bellies, and their filthy cursing mouths !

• Natural Families: Like certain kinds of foods (momma's cooking)
• God's Family: Like to "eat and drink" from the Word of God !
• Natural Families: Have certain activities in common. ( parties, bar hopping, swinging)
• God's Family: Enjoys common activities. ( Church, Praise, Worship, Fellowship)
• Both Families: Should "get along," love one another, defend and fellowship(Often don't)

Which family are you a part of, is God your Father and Jesus your Brother ? Or do you feel like "out of place," unhappy with this family?

(4) If You Are A Son You Will Feel Convicted Of Your Sin And Repent

(A) If you are truely a Son, God will chasten you: Hebrews 12:6-8 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
