David 5 ----- Giants 0 Pastor Adron Wheat
Text: 1 Samuel 17: 50 - 52 ( 2 Samuel 21:15 - 22) ( 22:1 - 4) Introduction: Many have the opinion that Goliath was the only Giant that David had to face. But David had his share of battles with Giants throughout his entire life. His battle began when he was but a boy and continued all his adult life. The battle began with opposing armies, but the real battle came down to one on one, face to face with Goliath. I am a believer that everyone must face his own "Giants" in life. Some from "without" and many from "within", but God will give the victory if we remember the battle is the Lord's.
God Gave David Victory Over Goliath, But The Giants Kept On Coming ! (1) 2 Sam. 21:12 When David went to reclaim the bones of Saul and Jonathan whom the Philistines had slain, he encountered his second Giant. (v.16)
- ISHBI'BEN-OB : ( Heb.> to sit in ambush, in quiet, to haunt)
(A) This Giant with a spear weighing 300 sheckles of Brass (24 lb.) came to slay David.
(B) But A-BI'SHAI (Heb.> to level, eqalize, or balance) came to David's aid and slew him for David.
(C) We also have an "equalizer" when we are to small for the battle !
From that time David was asked not to go into battle anymore, but the Giants kept on coming !
(2) V. 18 Another battle with the Philistines and "Saph" came against David
- SAPH: (Heb.> to take or snatch away, to terminate)
(A) This Giant came as the "Terminator", ( To Kill, Steal, Destroy )
(B) But SIBBECHAI (Heb.> to hurry, come with excitement, with haste) came to David's rescue.
But The Giants Kept On Coming ! (3) V. 19 Again another battle with the Philistines, the "Brother" of Goliath.
- GOLIATH: ( Heb.> an exile, a captive stripped of his powers)
(A) A brother of Goliath, an exile stripped of his powers, came with a sword like a weavers beam. But was rendered powerless against God's man !
(B) EL-HA'NAN: ( Heb.> God is gracious, strength and mighty ) Came to David's aid and slew him.
But The Giants Kept On Coming ! (4) V. 20 - 22 There was yet another battle in "Gath" (Heb. > a winepress, or to press)
- A man of great stature "Un-named", with six fingers on each hand, six toes on each foot, born to Giants.
(A) JONATHAN: The son of Shim'e-ah, (Heb.> Jehovah given)
These four born of Giants in Gath, fell by the hand of David and his Servants
- Remember the five stones David gathered? One for each grave ! the final score----- David 5 , Giants 0
(5) These were not all the Giants David would hvae to fight. (Pride, Lust,Greed)
(A) We must all fight Giants from "without" ( Problems, Trials, Misfortunes )
(B) But some of the most dangerous, deadly battles are fought "within." (Secret sins)
(6) David faced his Giants in two of the most difficult periods of his life.
(A) When he was "too young" and inexperienced, God helped him.
(B) When he was "too old" and weak, God sent someone to fight for him !
- Listen Young People: Giants are coming your way now, but God will help you!
- Listen Elderly People: All the "Fight" may seem to be gone, but you have help!
- Jesus knew that "Giants" of Principalities, Powers, Rulers of Darkness would come!
- God the Father knew we were no match for Giants, so He sent the Giant Slayer Jesus. Jesus: Layed asude his royal robe, put on the garment of flesh, stepped down through forty two generations of fallen mankind, took on Satan on his turn, took the keys to death, hell and the grave, looked back at us and says; "Because I have overcome, you can overcome also!"
The Giants will keep coming, but Jesus is at the right hand of the Father passing out stones ! Back to Index
